‘Prayaas’ is a social responsibility initiative by the students of the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP). The group is organizing a free artificial limb camp and free eye camp at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) campus on October 21, 2012.
The free artificial limb camp in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti will provide artificial legs to people who have lost their legs. Calipers will also be provided for people afflicted by polio. Free Eye camp in collaboration with Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology will benefit cataract patients and patients with other eye ailments. All treatment will be funded by the students of EPGP course and IIMB faculty.
The Prayaas initiative started in 2010 and witnessed a turnover of 35 patients for limb replacement. In the first year, the event was primarily for the fitment of artificial limbs provided by Jaipur foot for the needy patients from the rural population in and around Bangalore. In its second year in 2011, the event was inaugurated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Besides the leg prosthesis, an eye camp was organized in association with Vittala eye care to diagnose the patients and provide them with the necessary treatment/surgery as per the requirement. Patients requiring surgical treatment were given a later date for the same by the Vittala Eye Care. Cleft lip/palate treatment camp was also organized wherein the patients were sent to the Craniofacial foundation for surgery.
Prayaas is an attempt by the EPGP students to show the world that it is not only our choice but our duty to give back to the underprivileged sections of society.
