IIT Gandhinagar gets 400 acres of land for it’s new campus


IIT Gandhinagar will have a new address, a 400 acre land has been allotted to the Institute on the banks of the Sabarmati near Palej in Gandhinagar. IIT Gandhinagar is currently operating from a temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGEC) at Chandkheda.

IIT Gandhinagar currently offers a 4-year B. Tech. programme in Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and an M. Tech. programme in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering and in Metallurgy Materials Science.

The new campus near Palej will be constructed at a budget of around Rs 1,200 crore in the first phase,as a fully residential campus for 2,400 students. The work is expected to commence with in a year, the management of IIT Gandhinagar is hoping to shift to a new campus by 2015.
