Six government medical colleges in the State of Karnataka will get 50 additional MBBS seats each, the intake is set to increase from 100 seats to 150 seats in all the six government medical colleges according to Karnataka Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas. He also clarified to sources that the MCI has granted permanent affiliation status to these colleges and the colleges are expected to start post graduation medical courses from next academic year.
Currently there are 1350 MBBS seats in Government Medical Colleges in Karnataka & 4655 seats in private Medical Colleges. Totally there are 43 Medical Colleges in the State.
Funding from Union Health Ministry
Rs 1,274 crore has been sanctioned to improve the facilities and complete the ongoing work in all the government medical colleges in Karnataka. The amount will be allotted in the ratio of 25:75 by State & Central Governments respectively.
