PM Assures Autonomy of IITs

Federation members along with faculty from all IITs met the prime minister in New Delhi on Friday morning to seek his intervention in the new common entrance test format proposed by HRD Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal. According to sources Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured autonomy of IITs to All India IIT Faculty Federation (AIIITFF).

Briefly MHRD has been talking about a common engineering entrance test to select students for all engineering colleges in the country. the saddest part has been the inclusion of IITs, NITs & IIITs into the test and adding a 40% weightage to board marks. According to the version proposed by MHRD both AIEEE & IITJEE has to be replaced with a new engineering entrance test to be named as ISEET. Further more HRD Ministry said that board marks be given weightage in the selection process of IITs. To know more about ISEET, you can follow the link here.

  1. ISEET should take place from session 2013. It is good to include apyitude test and board percentage for admissions to various engineering institute.

  2. It is better to look at the positive aspects of the ISEET proposed. ISEET should be conducted from 2013 onwards. It will do away with multiple entrance examinations and reduce the stress levels of students
