IIT Selection Process Finalized; New JEE From Next Year

According to a report, the IIT Council has zeroed in the ongoing discussion on the selection process for the IITs. A new format to be implemented from next year has been finalized, students must now score and stay in the top 20% of their respective board exams to take part in the JEE main examination.

The main examination will be multiple choice based, the top 150,000 students will then be shortlisted for the advanced JEE examination. The main examination is not a final decider it is a semifinal and the advanced test is the final or the decider test for the IITs.

MHRD, IIT Council along with IIT senates had several meetings in the past and couldn’t drew conclusion. The meeting which was held today was not attended by Kapil Sibal, Sibal who earlier called for one nation one test has finally ended up keeping two tests JEE Main and JEE Advanced instead of AIEEE & IITJEE.

In practical terms the proposed new format will most likely pressurize students more, earlier students had the opportunity to gear up in the last minute by acing the final and single version of either AIEEE or IITJEE. With the new proposal in place, pressure is mounted with the 20% pool rule. The chances are killed the moment student fails to get into the top 20% pool, they can neither go for the IITs, nor the NITs, IIITs, centrally funded institutes and deemed universities.

The new proposal is calling parents to put their wards into private colleges instead of coaching institutes (JEE or AIEEE) and pressurize them to secure 99 to 100% in board examination. Study hours, extra classes, hostel life instead of attending coaching classes is all the difference that has been bought to the untested new JEE format.

  1. The students who score and stay top 20%, shall be permitted to join in the IITs provided they find the plasce in the rank list published for admission to IITs. The students who had found their place in the common test can select the NITs and other Engineering Colleges. The state level entrance examination shall be stopped for the academic session starting in 2103.This wqill ensure a minimum standard for admission to Engg. Colleges in various states. Recently , the High Court of Kerala had observed that the Colleges who fail to produce results less than 40% shall be closed. To achieve a minimum standard for the admission to the Engg. Courses, the common entrrance exam. is the only remedy. Those who have got interest5 in the future of the country as well as of teh students, they will welcome the decision to conduct the common admiossion test. Self Finacing Colleges Managements’ may be permitted to admit the students who find their names in the rank list. For including the name in the rank list, the students should have secured 50% marks in their respective board exam and a minimum of 20% marks in the entrance exam.

  2. thik hai mere bhai, lekin uski kaya jo ek no. ke liye iit nahi nikal pay aur aieee nikalne ki chamta karhta hai.

  3. Shame on Kapil Sibbal. Are students who secure 99% and above are capable of appearing in IITs. what about other students. Sometimes most eligible students who may become the cream of IIT, may not secure this much of percentage. are they going to make the students mad. what will they do. will they attend coaching or will they concentrate only on school studies to secure that tag of 99%. It is ridiculous. I think, kapil sibal has no children in his family. this government should really go.

    1. It has not been said so that students should secure 99% in board exams, the point has been made by the author to highlight the scenario if board exams have a say in the IIT selection process.

  4. WHAT IS GOING TO BE MAIN EXAM AND ADVANCE EXAM SYLLABUS.?
MORE OVER THE NEW PROPOSAL IS NOT AT ALL SATISFACTORY DECISION TAKEN BY IIT SENATS.
WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, IF ANY STUDENT FAILS TO GET IN TOP 20%..OR NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ADVANCE EXAM HE LIFE IS SPOILED..HE HAD NO OTHER OPTION TO GET IN TO PREMIER COLLEGES..HRD MINISTER SHOULD ALSO THINK OF THIS..

  5. Who the hell these idiots are to decide the fate of innocent students, is this how these stupids are going to make up the NATION. These guys are pushing more students towards mental depression and probable more cases of su*****, and we are just spectator of this rotten system.

  6. what will be the sylabus for main,no one has mention it,as per previous decision it was non technical, wht about it now????????????????????
