Though AICTE was often criticized for announcing CMAT a Common Management Aptitude Test for Management Programmes offered by the AICTE approved business schools. CMAT may pose huge threat to those fancy business schools who merely rely on advertising to get students on board. Since CMAT is accepted by AICTE approved Institutes, those business schools who don’t have the AICTE Trade Mark might down the shutters with in few years. A recent survey conducted by CRISIL too had similar opinions, you can view the article here.
Firstly AIMA will give up MAT, as it is no longer required to be taken; ATMA too will go for a toss. Though only 70,000 students are appearing for CMAT this year, the number will be close to 200,000 to 400,000 from next year on. Applicants of MAT + ATMA + State Level CET will be a huge number and gets added to CAT, CMAT or both.
This year AICTE timed it poorly; students had already registered for other entrance exams like ATMA & MAT there were very few who could spend extra bucks for filling CMAT application forms.
The concept of drawing a national merit list tells where each applicant is positioned and hints whether he or she is really fit for doing MBA. Considering there are 3500 AICTE approved Institutes with an annual take of 60 (as an example), the number of seats will be 210,000 which is fairly good. There is no need for students to hop for admissions in those fancy business schools where the affiliated University name changes every year.
Several students talk to Career Mitra for taking advice in deciding an MBA college, a typical question like “Sir, is it true that they have placement tie ups with more than 600 companies” and “they are offering an International MBA from blah blah University”. It saddens to see how students are lured by Institutes and fancy advertisements on popular national news papers.
Hopefully such things could be avoided if students stick to CMAT from next year and participate in central counseling to be conducted by AICTE.
What is your take? Isn’t CMAT a cool idea! Have you ever been a victim of such fancy business schools we are talking off.. Share your views!
