Union Health Ministry has received a proposal seeking necessary grants to allow 29000 more medical seats in India. 18000 seats will be for undergraduate courses and 11000 seats are for postgraduate courses; this proposal is the part of 12th five year plan.
30 new medical colleges will be set up across different states by 2017; India currently produces 30,000 doctors, 18,000 specialists, 30,000 AYUSH doctors, 54,000 nurses, 15,000 ANMs and 36,000 pharmacists annually.
The above numbers are set to increase soon.
