  3. NEET UG Postponed to 2012-13

There is bad news for NEET UG aspirants. The much awaited National Eligibility Cum Entrance Exam for under graduates (NEET-UG) has been postponed. This was done after ministry of health and family welfare informed the Hon’ble Supreme Court that NEET will be conducted for academic year 2013-14 instead of 2012-13.

Now students will have to appear for All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) prelims to be held on April 1, 2012 followed by the main exam on May 13.

States like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra were never in favour of NEET. They sought a delay because the state schools were not at par with NEET requirements and that NEET was not to be conducted in regional languages. Finally, the parent associations approached court and got a stay on NEET.

So, start preparing for AIPMT now. Best of luck…

  5. @WBJEEB officials
In your latest notification you should have printed two extra information….
    1. any change in question pattern ? ….80% MCQ or 100% MCQ
    2. any change in negative marks ?…4:1 or 3:1
WB students are still very much confused regarding these two points…

    1. Question Pattern : In each subject all questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ-type, with four options including single correct answers). In MCQ type, for each incorrect response, 33.33% of marks will be deducted and more than one answer indicated against one question will be treated as incorrect response/ answer.

Amendment to pave way for holding NEET from 2013
    User Rating: / 0
Determined to postpone the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2012 for medical graduates by a year, the Health Ministry is seeking amendment to a notification that would legally pave way for holding the test from 2013.

The move comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent refusal to accept its demand to defer conducting of the NEET, scheduled for May 13, 2012 for the next academic session of 2013-14.

“Since the apex court has refused to intervene in the matter, now we have no option but to amend the notification (dated December 21, 2010) to postpone the examination date for May 2013. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has already sent a proposal in this regard to the Health Ministry for its approval,” sources told The Pioneer.

However, the case has brought to the fore the ineffectiveness of the present Board of Governors (BOG) of the MCI, headed by Dr KK Talwar, which remained a mute spectator in the whole episode. In fact, it acted as desired by the Health Ministry, which was opposed to NEET from the day it was conceived in 2010 by the MCI BOG led by Dr SK Sarin.

Sources said, the current BOG could have appealed the Court to allow it to hold the NEET in the non-objecting states. “The CBSE was ready to hold the examination. Conducting it in some states would have given the Council an idea about the logistics as well as its efficacy.”

Last year, the MCI had submitted before the court that the notification had been approved by the Centre as early as in August 2010, a claim contested by the Health Ministry.

Clearly under pressure from the Ministry, the MCI made a U-turn in the court recently saying that with many States such as Goa and Maharashtra opposing the national-level common entrance test at under-graduate and post graduate levels, it is not in a position to implement it from 2012-13.

  8. Given the strong language by SC w.r.t. the MCI and Health Ministry affidavits, and the good chance of reverse PIL against multiple Ent. exams of so many colleges across the country, the MCi and DGHS may be forced to condust NEET UG 2012, may be with a modified sylabus and may be in regional languages ( these 2 iisues are in reality not at all difficult to implement)

  9. Sorry state of affairs.Even at this stage * mark means sword is still hanging!!!!!!!.I do not know if even god can save medical aspirants from this killing uncertainty.
