AIPMT 2012 Notification; NEET UG Putoff Till 2013

AIPMT 2012 notification has been announced; the prelim test will be held on 1st April, 2012 (Sunday) and the main test will be held on 13th May, 2012 (Sunday).

The eligibility conditions, centre cities, syllabus, pattern, etc. will remain the similar to AIPMT 2011 Examination for which the information is already available on website

The schedule for the submission of application forms would be shortly communicated.

The All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in several medical colleges around the country. Presently, 15% of the total seats in all medical and dental colleges run by the Union of India, state governments, municipal, or other local authorities in India, except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, are reserved for candidates who qualify this examination.

The All India Pre-Medical Test for undergraduate medical courses has been in question this year with MCI announcing about NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate courses); aspiring medical students from different parts of India were in a state of confusion on whether to prepare for the state level entrance test or to concentrate on NEET UG.

The syllabus varied for both of these tests; several states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh etc argued that there is variation in the syllabus and question on vernacular language issue and the timing of announcement. Few of these states were granted exception from NEET UG next year.

Earlier health ministry had written to supreme court to defer NEET UG by a year; the apex court had nodded for the written petition and granted a one year stay on NEET UG. Accordingly CBSE has given a press release on AIPMT 2012 and stated that NEET UG is not taking place next year.

Correction: With due apologies I am correcting the above statement; supreme court has only referred it for further hearing in January 2012. Thanks for Rajeev for correcting me 🙂

Update: AIPMT 2012 application forms are available online, please read this post.

  7. NEET: MCI to announce postponement

    Mathrubhumi Education Online

Kochi, Jan 6, 2012: It is learnt from reliable sources that the Medical Council of India will officially announce the postponement of NEET-UG to the academic year, 2013-14.

MCI has recieved a letter from the Union Health Ministry regarding the deferment of the common entrance test to 2013. MCI will take up the matter tomorrow in its meeting and will officially announce the postponement of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test to 2013.

Earlier CBSE had filed a plea in the apex court requesting permission to conduct NEET in 2012 itself. How ever, it is not known whether CBSE has withdrawn the plea, as they have already announced the notification for AIPMT-2012.

  11. No argument is convincing to justify the postponement of NEET UG 2012. Different syllabus or option of writing only in English or Hindi these are the lame excuses. We have the example of common entrance test for IITs. No one is raising any question of vernacular of syllabus for this prestigious test. By not allowing a uniform entrance test for medical aspirants, those how are at helm of affairs wants to influence the outcome. No one can save India. It will remain corrupt and those who seek mental peace will get settled in some abroad. First reservation will lead to compromise the quality of stuff and then different states will churn out different quality of doctors from their cottage industries. Perhaps, we as Indian deserve to be ruled by corrupt politicians otherwise how an issue on which there is Supreme Court ruling may not be got materialized? Let’s see how the court reacts on this state of affairs.

SEE TIMES OF INDIA OF DECEMBER 25 2012 : The first ever single eligibility-cum-entrance examination for MBBS and post-graduate medical courses, will now be rolled out from 2013. This was indicated by the Union health ministry in a meeting with the Medical Council of India on Friday.

However, the final clearance will come in a week’s time after Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad gives the MCI the green signal to formulate the notification. The test was scheduled to be held on May 13, 2012.

A ministry source told TOI the syllabus for the 2013 entrance test has already been prepared and put on the website of the MCI for students to switch over to the new system and get fully acquainted with the syllabus. The source said “some states wanted more time before the National Eligibility cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is rolled out.

We have therefore decided to roll it out for both under graduate and post graduate medical exams from 2013. The MCI has been informally told in the meeting on Friday. A formal communication will be sent next week.”

Among the states that was against the introduction of NEET in 2012 included West Bengal Maharashtra, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa had showed readiness to join NEET from 2013-14 but AP sought exemption for two years, saying it would join from 2014-15. NEET will be held for MBBS and MD courses offered by all 271 medical colleges, 138 govt-run and 133 under private management.

  17. Government faces Supreme Court ire for not going ahead with CEE for MBBS 16 Dec, 2011, 1920 hrs IST, PTI NEW DELHI: Government today faced the ire of the Supreme Court for expressing its unwillingness to go ahead with the first-ever common National Eligibility-cum -Entrance Test (NEET) for all MBBS courses across the country. The apex court said it will “not become party” to the decision of the government which sought deferment of the common entrance examination by one year to 2013. “Either we will reject your application or you withdraw your application. Whatever you want to do you can do but we are not going to be party to your decision,” a bench comprising justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad said. “All this order (for the single entrance test) was passed after hearing you (centre). You said draft rules and regulations were in place for implementing it in the academic year 2012-13, ” the bench said. “This court will not be a party (to your decision). We will not be party to all these regulations. Why will we be party to it (for deferring the CEE). Why are you bringing this court in this matter. You better start and withdraw this application,” the bench said. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had moved an application seeking court’s order in this regard saying that some state governments have expressed reservation to switch over to the new system and wanted students to get acquainted with the syllabus prescribed by the Medical Council of India. It was also reported that the West Bengal Government had expressed preference to continue with the Joint Entrance Examination Board for all colleges in the state and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had written a letter to the health minister on August 11. The apex court in March this year had cleared the deck for the Centre and the Medical Council of India (MCI) to hold a common entrance test for the MBBS and PG courses despite objections raised by some state governments and first among them was Tamil Nadu.

  19. yeeeppppiiiiieeee

The first ever single window national entrance test
for MBBS and postgraduate admissions in the
country looks all set to be a reality next year after
the Centre’s attempt to defer it by a year got shot
down by Supreme Court on Friday.

The Court found no reason to entertain requests put
forth by Union Health Ministry and Medical Council of
India (MCI) to defer the National Eligibility-cum-
Entrance Test (NEET) for under-graduate and
postgraduate courses (also common entrance test (CET
for MBBS courses) to 2012-13 citing practical problems. Both the Centre and MCI were heard before the Court
had passed an order giving the green signal for NEET. Seeing the Centre’s flip-flop, the bench of Justices HL
Dattu and CK Prasad refused to be dragged into the
controversy. It said, “We will not be a party to
postponement of these regulations…You better start
preparations to implement it from 2012-13. We will
not allow you to postpone.” The Ministry’s application read as follows: “The
conduct of Under Graduate National Eligibility-cum-
Entrance Test (UG-NEET) is a Herculean task which
requires great deal of preparation and for paucity of
time it is practically impossible to resolve the issues
raised by various State Governments and hold the UG- NEET in 2012.” The application cited the various objections raised by
States, for instance, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa
willing to join the national test from 2013-14, Andhra
Pradesh seeking an exemption of two years, Kerala
demanding its reservation policies to be kept intact,
Assam disputing with criteria for minimum marks, West Bengal for inclusion of Bengali language as a
medium for conduct of the said examination and
Puducherry wanting exemption from the NEET. The bench dismissed the Centre’s demand and allowed
MCI to withdraw its application. However, the option
of rescinding the guidelines for NEET is still open as the
Government could still by issuing a notification
withdraw its decision to hold a common test to enable
lakhs of medical aspirants to apply for medical seats across the country through a single window test
instead of appearing for 26 exams. Through the NEET,
admissions to 15 per cent all India quota and 85 per
cent state quota seats in MBBS courses. Earlier, the difference of views within the Government
on this issue was evident in the SC last week when
opposed to Health Ministry application, the Central
Bureau of Secondary Education (CBSE) filed an
application seeking permission to conduct the test
    from next academic year.

    1. Court raps Centre, MCI on CET 16 December 2011, J. Venkatesan “First, you notify rules and then you don’t want to implement it” With many States opposing the national- level common entrance test at under- graduate and post graduate levels, the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Friday informed the Supreme Court its decision not to implement it from 2012-13. A Bench of Justices H.L. Dattu and C.K. Prasad, before whom the MCI filed the affidavit indicating its intention, pulled up counsel for seeking permission to withdraw the CET notification. Justice Dattu made it clear to the Additional Solicitor-General Harin P. Raval and MCI counsel Amarandra Sharan: “We don’t want to be party to any such decision. First, you notify the rules for common entrance tests and then you don’t want to implement it.” When counsel expressed the MCI’s inability to hold the CET for 2012-13 and sought permission to hold it from next year due to opposition from certain State governments, Justice Dattu said: “Orders are passed at your convenience. Draft regulations had already been filed. Now you say you will not do it in 2012-13. This court will not be a party to the postponement. You do whatever you want.”

  32. dear all

  39. Mr.D.B.Sarkar,
You are absolutely right. The NEET syllabus is already published and the same syllabus could be used for the 15% seats. Why CBSE is rushing for AIPMT is not known. This is to give advantage to entrance mafia. The 12th standard students will be victims of this decision. The drops will take advantage of revising 11th standard books while 12 std students are busy giving 12th board exams. They will not get time to revise 11th class books as AIPMT pre is immediately after their 12 th class exam. This is injustice to 12 th std students.
Request CBSE , MCI and Health ministry to re consider their decision to conduct pre on April 1st.If they are really sincere to NEET -2013, this is right time to conduct NEET 2012 for 15% all india quota.Otherwise next year also same thing will repeat and NEET will be put off again and agiain with the mafia pressure of private medical colleges.

  43. mr. srikant a line in this post need more clarification “the apex court had nodded for the written petition and granted a one year stay on NEET UG.” realy suprem court has gave the order to delay neet ug 2012… if yes then what is the source of information?

    CONGRATS ………

  45. It would have been better if CBSE & MCI have introduced NEET UG 2012 as an alternative for AIPMT 2012 and it should have been only for 15 % All India seats and 85 % seats of willing states.
As an alternative of AIPMT 2012 the clone of NEET UG 2012 could have created some goodwill for future pan India implementation. Minor modifications for regional language/syllabus etc for NEET UG 2013 would have been easier and mare acceptable then.
