Just the same day when we published that ‘NEET UG is not debuting this year’; we heard contradicting news from the Press Information Bureau. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has mentioned that NEET will take place; but no indication when it will be implemented.
Responding in Rajya Sabha today, Azad has clarified that the Supreme Court (in Simran Jain case) has accepted the proposal of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct common entrance test viz. National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) medical courses in the country and directed the Council to take such steps as are necessary to implement the NEET.
Further, Central Board of Secondary Education, which is the agency for conducting NEET for UG, has constituted an Advisory Committee consisting of Members from all States to address the issues of admission processes prevalent in various States like reservation, medium of test, etc.
Once implemented, NEET would be applicable to all medical colleges which come under the ambit of MCI, including for approximately 54 per cent of MBBS seats available in private medical colleges.
There is no mention on whether NEET will take place in 2012; MCI has not made any official statement from the day it announced the finalized syllabus. This leads to another million dollar question; did NEET called off next year?
One would need to wait further more to know if NEET is taking place next year or not. Share your views!
