Did NEET Called off Really?

Just the same day when we published that ‘NEET UG is not debuting this year’; we heard contradicting news from the Press Information Bureau. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has mentioned that NEET will take place; but no indication when it will be implemented.

Responding in Rajya Sabha today, Azad has clarified that the Supreme Court (in Simran Jain case) has accepted the proposal of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct common entrance test viz. National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) medical courses in the country and directed the Council to take such steps as are necessary to implement the NEET.

Further, Central Board of Secondary Education, which is the agency for conducting NEET for UG, has constituted an Advisory Committee consisting of Members from all States to address the issues of admission processes prevalent in various States like reservation, medium of test, etc.

Once implemented, NEET would be applicable to all medical colleges which come under the ambit of MCI, including for approximately 54 per cent of MBBS seats available in private medical colleges.

There is no mention on whether NEET will take place in 2012; MCI has not made any official statement from the day it announced the finalized syllabus. This leads to another million dollar question; did NEET called off next year?

One would need to wait further more to know if NEET is taking place next year or not. Share your views!

  2. Neet is not possible this year due to large syllabus difference now mci and cbse board also show their inability now it is only formality to see Official notification. It will publish soon by mci and it will clear that neet will not there in 2012. So friends best luck for AIPMT AND STATES PMT.

    1. cbse not shown their inabilty to hold neet exam. they only said ” if decisoin on neet not comes soon then holding neet on annaunced date could be impossible” dontspread false news.

Confusion continues over entrance test The confusion surrounding the implementation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)- Under Graduate (UG) for admission to medical courses, continues. According to sources in the higher education department, following stiff resistance from private medical colleges and deemed universities, the State is planning to delay the implementation of NEET-UG for two years in Karnataka. A majority of officials in the education department, however, still want the government to implement the NEET-UG from 2012 as originally planned. A senior officer of the education department, on condition of anonymity, told this newspaper on Thursday that Higher Education Minister Dr.V .S. Acharya held consultations with senior officials of the department to chart out a strategy to convince the central government and the Medical Council of India to postpone the implementation of NEET-UG by two years in the state.

  6. HURRAY!!! GET READY FOR NEET 2012, search google news for ‘MEDICAL CET’ and u will get to know today what imphal government has released for their students.

  7. why people here still don’t want to beleive that neet will be postponed. guys it is too late now. i have heard some private colleges admitting students .

kerala engineering and medical exam is also out and even small state like assam will be bringing up their notification.
this whole mess has been created by mci so their is no question about not recognizing the seats.
most corrupt nation has been exempted so what is the point of neet now. it is not a matter of whyneet should be brought and why it should not be but what the timing is as of now .

relax guys try to face the truth ……………

  8. i think neet is good step because 1.lot of medical college run by politicians & industrialist who take huge bribe at admission time.and this bribe goes to all sectors of politicians and concerned buerocrates. 2.lot of money make by state medical councils by selling application form &private colleges on high prices even though upsc takes only 50 Rs.of the application form &conduct 3 exams pre,main(essay,g.s. optional, interview, and this huge money distributed among corrupt politicians 3.they leak the paper of state PMT as occur every year many times in chhattis garh ,odisha,u.p ,bihar &various other states some scams come on screen while many more remain hidden this will be retard by NEET. 4 .you will get a fair competition because many states have more good medical colleges so you deprive to take admission in that colleges through state PMT.there are many more points to support NEET so dont worry start preparetion GOOD LUCK ALL THE BEST

    1. A Significant Symposium Dec 2, 2011, 12.17 PM IST TNN KOLKATA: One cannot stress enough upon the pertinence of upgrading and sustaining the system of medical education and admission prevailing in this country. In fact it is disappointing to note that there is an acute shortage of qualified doctors and the root of the malady is the system of admissions and entry that prevails at the MBBS level. In an effort to significantly alter the system, the Medical Council of India (MCI), has announced that there will be a complete re- interpretation of the system, which will now entail a common entrance test. The panel at the Bengal Chamber discussed the possible consequences of this significant alteration. Moderated by Dr Amit Ghose, chairman, Health Committee of the Bengal Chamber, the panelists were Dr Ashok Kumar Gupta, member, board of governors, MCI, Bhaskar Gupta of Jadavpur University, Dr Bhabotosh Biswas and Dr Subrata Maitra. A number of issues were strongly presented by the doctors and they stressed on some key points. The common entrance test, christened the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), will be convened for admission to MBBS courses all over the country from May 2012, and this leaves students with very little time or choice as the Supreme Court has ratified this process. With the question paper being exclusively in English and Hindi, the students conversant in vernacular would be at a disadvantaged position. The doctors questioned the modus operandi of the procedure as it seemed too hasty and it should have been implemented following a careful revision of the syllabus instead of asking the CBSE to suitably formulate the syllabus. Whether or not this would curb the influx of private medical colleges remains to be seen. The event which was primarily interactive concluded with a presentation by Dr Gupta of the MCI where he tried to outline the reasons as to why it was necessary to implement the system. It is simply a matter of time now till the effect of this step can be seen.

      1. dude tell me one thing
whole country has been effected by corruption . people has been shouting for solution but nothing is coming . lokpal which everyone has agreed but still has not been implemented.

neet has seen widespread opposition through out india. how can it be implemented in 2012 . only thing we are asking is time.

  9. Rattled by the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) determination to go ahead with the common entrance test for MBBS admissions from next academic session (2012-13), private medical colleges and universities have threatened not to admit students to the 25,000 medical seats under their ambit if the decision is not withdrawn. The common entrance test is named National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET).

MCI is likely to issue a notification soon paving way for just one entrance test each for MBBS courses offered by all medical colleges — both in Government and private sectors. Such an examination will replace the 17 medical entrance examinations currently existing in the country. The CBSE will be conducting the all-India tests for admitting 32,000 undergraduates.

However, All India Private Medical Colleges and Private Universities Welfare Association of India has termed the move illegal saying that if it (MCI) went ahead with the decision (to hold NEET), they would announce Zero session (no admission). This, they said, would further lead to a shortage of 25,000 more doctors in the country.

The Association, comprising representatives from 180 colleges across the country offering over 25,000 seats for MBBS, will soon meet Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in this regard.

  10. i am from karnataka still i am favouring neet because i have seen with my own eyes “rich baaps” were betting for mbbs seats in a private medical college of a cabinet minister sitting in delhi, u must compare karnataka and neet syllabus how much difference is there, still i want neet why? its not only about me but for all students. i have another example, in indore(M.P.) there is a medical college named Shree Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences, my friend studying there, do u know who’s college is this? DIGVIJAY SINGH, congress( Ex CM of MP and presently attacking on anna and baba ramdev), why he needed to invest in a medical college ???

  11. Hi All,

  12. Medical Council of India (MCI) is reported to have written to the Union law ministry stating that conducting National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) will not be possible this year, sources said. NEET was to be introduced by the MCI as a common entrance exam for admission in MBBS colleges all over the country.

The council will make a formal decision about not holding the NEET exam from this year soon, sources added. MCI has decided to offer NEET following SC directives but the plan met with lot of opposition from several states with many chief ministers writing against the test. MCI has expressed that NEET cannot be implemented from this year as there was a complete lack of consensus.

What’s more, petitions were filed in the high courts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir and stay orders granted against organizing NEET. There are also reports of pressure from the South lobby which have big stakes in self-financed colleges and would suffer losses in terms of capitation fee if admissions are granted on basis of a single test.

In Gujarat too, the NEET met with severe opposition not only from the state government but also from parents of students of class XI and XII (science) who actively campaigned against the entrance test. Gujarat’s prime opposition against NEET was that not conducting the test in local language would be unfair to the 70% students who study in Gujarati medium.

Moreover, there is 30-35% difference between the NEET and the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) syllabus, which will not offer the local students a level playing field.

Gujarat had said that it will join NEET only if the test is offered in Gujarati language and the difference between the two syllabuses is bridged. In addition, Gujarat had said that it will join the exam only after 2012.

    1. Need for National Eligibility Entrance
      Examination (NEET)
It was felt that common entrance examination is essential as it:
      ● Ensures uniformity across the country,
      ● Sets a minimum standard and
      ● Is convenient for the candidates
      ● Saves resources.
      ● Takes care of malpractices

      1. exactly….very true….it should be conducted….court shouldn’t take decisions on foolish opinions of different states….whenever gud things are to happen in this country ,some ridiculous state governments start raising problems….disgusting !! just making doctors by easiest exams according to state’s comfort is not acceptable. Now is the time to bring some positive changes in medical field….enough now.

      2. HAVE U GONE MAD …..
we are not at all aware of what challenges it provides. how can u make such opinions .

how does it matter if it is conducted in 2014.

  14. chalo yaroon …. roz roz ki bat hai yaar neet cancellation ki khabar ati hai …….. jab bhi koi khabar ati hai toh yahan koi na koi panauti laga deta hai ……..

  15. Suspense ends: CET on hold, it’s WBJEE this year Dec 1, 2011, 03.54AM IST TNN KOLKATA: After weeks of nail-biting apprehension,
Medical aspirants can breathe easy. The West
Bengal Joint Entrance Board will conduct the
medical entry test for 2012. Earlier, there was suspense over the CBSE-
conducted Common Entrance Test (CET) that is
being made mandatory nationwide. If Bengal were
to follow it this year, thousands of higher
secondary students would have a tough time
getting to terms with the CBSE syllabus and answering the test in English. The WBJEE questions
are set in Bengali as well, but there is no vernacular
option in CET. After a meeting of the JEE board members with
officials of the higher education and health
    departments on Wednesday, the board
unanimously decided to conduct the JEE medical
and engineering 2012 as usual. “We’ll issue the
final notification soon and start distributing forms,” said board chairman Bhaskar Gupta. Gupta assured examinees that they needn’t worry
about strictures from the Medical Council of India
(MCI) that it may derecognize degrees of MBBS
students who do not take the CET. “The government must have a plan. We could not
have taken a decision bypassing the government.
It knows about the problem and will take
responsibility for the medical students. They need
not worry. Moreover, though MCI had said they
may derecognize the degrees of students who do not appear in CET, they have not confirmed the
decision,” Gupta said, adding: “Karnataka and Tamil
Nadu are also conducting separate medical
entrance tests and not participating in CET. They
have got stay orders from the high courts.” He would not say if the Bengal government was
planning to take legal steps and secure a stay
order. “This can be best answered by the
government itself. However, legal advisors of WBJEE
board have given me the go-ahead and informed
me that there won’t be any legal hassles if we take a separate admission test,” Gupta added. The WBJEE will be held on April 15 next year. “All
the questions will be multiple-choice. We shall start
making preparations accordingly.” “With only five months to go for CET, medical
aspirants in the state were in a dilemma. We could
not let the uncertainty continue any further,” said a
health department official. Though chief minister Mamata Banerjee had written
to Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to
conduct the exam in Bengali, no reply has arrived
even after three weeks. “The CM had wanted a
reply within a week. The Centre had been acting
pricey. CBSE, which will conduct CET in 2012, has said they will prepare question papers only in
English and Hindi and not in regional languages.
We had no option but to keep the medical entrance
exam with us at least for one more year,” said the
health official. “There is also a difference between the NCERT and
Bengal syllabii. Till today, students were not sure
which syllabus they had to follow. How could they
start preparing for the exam?” the official said,
adding that the government was preparing to take
legal steps and file a case in high court soon. It was education minister Bratya Basu who had
pointed out that language and syllabus were the
two major obstacles for the state to accepts CET
    from this year.

Wbjee will be held on 15.04.2012 for both Eng amd Med. The Chairman of WBJEEB held media briefing today……. regarding MCI officials comments that MCI will not issue certificate if any stage defy NEET UG 2012 ……. Tne Chairman said appropriate legal recourse will be taken by the State Govt for MCI certificate….. the board is least bothered about such actions by MCI in future.
In WB MCI’s image is not good enough as in June 2011 MCI has approved 100 seats to a non existing pvt medical at Haldia.

  18. @game changer,
Can U please comment on system of entrance examination and merit system of Pvt Medical colleges? Is it not known to You? Meritorious means jo sabse achha padhne mein hai wo sabe achha karega. Big and fat daddy ka koi role nahi hoga. Misa could not be doctor if NEET would be there.

Dear GC , I Know NEET will never happen in India as it is going to harm the interest of Education mafia. These education mafia are nobody but powerful politicians of India controlling Pvt medical colleges. The possibilty of NEET is very remote untill and unless SC or persons like Anna Hazare is behind this. Admission system in Pvt medical colleges are fit case for referring to India against corruption. Is it Not?

  19. neet ko to kisi ka baap ka baap bhi nahi karwa sakta . Hum ne sabhi ko pese se kharid liya hai . I have big power of money . Every thing is fix .

  20. EVERY SUPPORTER OF NEET IS SHOUTING HERE THAT NEET WILL PROVIDE CHANCE TO MERITIOUS STUDENTS ………. HOW???????????//

  23. Dear Prince, I disagree that most of the students who qualify for JIPMER/AIIMS are from CBSE. I have seen two years ago a student of my village from UP board qualify in AIIMS in first attempt. Therefore, my contention is only who deserves merit should get their right within constitutional laid down limit.

  24. @ bk gupta…
    Fully agree with u….
Most of the students qualifying in national level exams are from cbse board…. Whether it is aiims or jipmer or bhu or any other….
Neet ug syllabus is best syllabus ever taught in india…..

  25. hi friends, i am in aakash institute. preparing for the entrance test. can any one suggest me books to prepare biology papers for AIPMT and NEET ??

    1. Hello Rani@ 9650440365,
I am also from Aaakash institute(Bhubaneswar).I think there is no need of any other book except your study package(Biology) to have a sound concept on Biology. Then arises the matter of solving questions, then you directly go to the previous year asked questions of Pradeep’s Biology to cheak your standard. You may also refer Trueman’s Objective Biology for a deep and scientific approach to your Biological studies. After all don’t forget to follow NCERT books of Biology. All my above mentioned books should to be followed only after you have completed theory portion for your board exam. All the best.

  26. I have some points against observation made by Dr Maity.
    1. No body has learned the formal computer education event aspiarnts at CAT Level. To know computer is mandatory for everyday life. THe students who are passing XII std with science and aspirant for MBBS , if he says he does not MS word at all,It is really astonishing for everybody. Even every state Govt promotes computer education even at the primary level , therefore, on-line exam can not be criticsed. Rather than , it reduces copying culture, fair enough. How many students have opposed Manipal entrance though it was on line. Regarding credentiality of CBSE , it is beyond doubt. They have estabilshed their credential while conducting AIEEE at such mega level with a no blot on their credential. Have you seen the entrance exam of Pvt medical collegees ? Do you think they are ethical? Even those examination are still with pencil. Their merit manipulation is known to all common public.
    2. Sir, MBBS study which is totally based in English shall be conducted in English only . Hindi is a symbolic being rastra bhasha. Rest of the language shall be strictly probhited if we want to give medical education a greater height in India and want to relieive from the clutches of Munnabhai . Have we seen the Exam of Engineers in Railway who come through IES(UPSC). Clearical grade comes through local language. Do we compare these MBBS Degree holder with clerical level?
    3. Dear sir, Leak of papaer reported last year in Lucknow/Kanpur was immededitely got rectified by cancelling the examination and got it done within next 4-5 hours. Students who could not appear due to AFMC exam in the next session have been given another opportunity within next 10 days. I am of the opionin that no such agency like CBSE in the world can do it better than what CBSE has done. Kudos to CBSE. We are blotting the credentials of CBSE and we are silent on the examinations conducted by Pvt medical collges. Unethical practice adopted by them is an open truth to everybody. Time has come to derecognise those colleges controlled by powerful poiticians rather than porudcing munnabhais through such colleges.
    4. Is there any requirement for establishing office OF cbse in State . There is a greivance redressal cell in CBSE open to everybody.
    5. Where is the claim of Central Govt regarding Govt approval. There is a procedure for publishing Notification in the Govt which might have certainly followed by MCI. Is approval of health ministry is required for publishing notification? If not ,then why it is required?
    6. Why Central Govt approval is required for finalising syllabus? NEET is the requirement of this country backed by SC so need to be implemented .

My conclusion, we are raising objections on NEET for the sake of objection but closed our eyes on entrance examination of Pvt medical colleges .Why? Can anybody tell me the reason? NEET will provide a fair selection as compared to others . Meritorious will get their due through merit . The persons who are busy to get medical seats throgh unethical means certainly will get harmed.

  27. JEE board meet on medical entrance

    OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board hopes to take a decision on the medical entrance test when it meets on Wednesday.

“We are trying our best to solve the crisis over the medical entrance test on Wednesday. We will also fix the dates for the distribution of the JEE forms,” board chairman Bhaskar Gupta told Metro.

Members of the JEE board have convened a meeting on Wednesday. According to sources, a decision on the test is likely. The schedule of distribution of forms for JEE will also be finalised.

Aspiring doctors from the state have no idea which test they would have to clear — the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the CBSE, or the JEE conducted by the state board — in order to qualify for medical seats.

The NEET is slated for mid-May, while the state JEE is to be held on April 15.

The state government’s dithering on clearing the confusion on the medical entrance test has inconvenienced thousands of aspiring doctors.

The government has so far written three letters to the Centre to accommodate a Bengali version of the questions. On November 16, education minister Bratya Basu had given the Centre seven days to make a decision. “If our request is declined, the state would want to fill up medical seats through the JEE,” he had said.

Nearly two weeks have passed but the government hasn’t yet made an announcement as to how it proposes to fill up its medical seats.

A meeting of the JEE board to finalise the form distribution date had been fixed last week but it was postponed.

The delay has confused medical, as well as engineering, aspirants. Last year, the forms had been distributed by November 15.

“When the government distributes the forms, we will get to know whether there are any changes in the question pattern or the exam system,” said a student at a south Calcutta school who plans to appear for the engineering entrance.

“The Trinamul Congress government had taken charge in May, when the MCI had made it clear that all states would have to accept the all-India medical entrance test. It could have started corresponding with the Centre and the MCI earlier and settled the issue of having a Bengali version of the questions by now,” said a teacher at a medical college in Calcutta.

“It is obvious from the state of affairs that the government isn’t serious about the students’ interest,” the teacher added.

  28. Dr. A.K Maity.
U have written some very good points. CBSE biology syllabus for AIPMT also sucks. Human physiology is neglected in AIPMT and botany part is given priyority. It’s doubtful how much scientific that is.
