The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is of the view to propose a plan for “upgrading” hostel infrastructure facilities at all the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). Concerned authorities are touched upon to estimate cost and acquire quotations to execute the process.
MHRD had also asked IITs to review the current status of their hostel facilities and told each of the IIMs to give a rough estimate of the expenditure that will be required to implement renovation activities for students and faculty, so that further steps could be taken to arrange funds for the purpose. Initially the renovation process will be implemented in the IIMs later MHRD will consult the concerned authorities of IITs to process their proposal for renovation. The initiative for renovating hostel infrastructure in the countries most prestigious colleges will add to the reputation of these colleges; infrastructure is a plus with most global business schools.
IIMs and IITs too strive to achieve accolades not just in teaching but also in facilities; which is also one of the criteria to do better in rankings. What do you think? Isn’t this a much needed initiative?
