Over 40 unaided private engineering colleges in the state of Karnataka recorded zero admissions through the recently concluded COMEDK counseling. Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) accepts students who have secured rank in Common Entrance Test (CET). CET is the state’s entrance test for admissions into engineering, architecture, medical and dental courses in Karnataka.
Experts believe that the zero admissions for these colleges is because of AICTE’s move to sanction more engineering seats. The allocation of seats this year is almost doubled comparing to last year. This has worsen the new colleges or the so called mediocre performing colleges. Another 30 colleges have recorded only 3 to 5 admissions as per the report.
Colleges worry and their struggle to sustain as an engineering college will continue, earlier we had reported of similar situation in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
