Paid Internship Reintroduced in BDS Course

The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has granted approval for re-introduction of one year rotational, compulsory and paid internship in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course. Accordingly now the tenure of the BDS Course will be for a period of four years plus one year internship with effect from the academic year 2011-12 and would be implemented in respect of the batches admitted from the year 2008-09. This step would go a long way in benefiting the training and future of about one lakh undergraduate students of Dentistry.

The revised BDS course – 3rd Amendment Regulations, 2011, also incorporate three months compulsory rural attachment. All parts of internship will be done in a dental college duly recognized/approved by Dental Council of India for the purpose of imparting education to dental graduates in the country. The compulsory rotational paid internship is aimed at improving training in all the different specialities of dentistry. On critical analysis it was realized that Internship period in dental/medical course provides for better opportunities for practical training and skill development. Internship program in dentistry are mandatory in most of the countries across the world.

  1. Hi, i am a foreign student doing dentistry in India.regarding this new amendments, do i still have to pay for the 5th year tuition fees?
