Approximately a year ago honorable HRD minister Kapil Sibal has stunned the world with his idea of launching a Tablet for just $ 35 (Less than Rs 1600). The idea is to make technology available to all School & College going students, ‘one laptop per child’ is the mission.
The $35 Tablet will be hitting the road in a few weeks, says Kapil Sibal in an interview with ‘The New York Times’ in his Delhi Office.
A prototype of this Tablet was already disclosed a year ago, producing in mass quantity will help reduce the cost and make his vision a reality. The manufacturer and supplier of such a Tablet remained undisclosed as of yet, once the supplies reach; the Tablets will be sold to Colleges & Universities.
Reportedly the Tablet was named as ‘Sakshat’ and the specifications are 7-inch touchscreen with inbuilt keyboard, video conferencing facility, multimedia content, Wi-Fi, USB port, 32GB hard drive and 2GB RAM. The tablet will support Open Office, SciLab and Internet browsing.
Sakshat could very well be a replacement for Notebooks which are typically 10 inch in size and costs 7 times more compared to $35 Tablet Sakshat. India always has demand supply gap, will the supply meet the demand?
Share your thoughts, will this be a Tablet which we can use or a Tablet for the name sake?
