IITs may calloff JMET and Prefer CAT for MBA Admissions

As per sources, IITs are in the process of scrapping JMET and consider CAT scores from next year onwards. IITs use JMET as an entrance test for the two year full time MBA course. Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management.

The reason for the proposal to consider CAT over JMET could be; JMET is less popular compared to CAT, any ideal MBA aspirant will have plans to appear for CAT (not necessarily JMET). IITs too offer quality management courses so they are better off to accept CAT scores instead of conducting another entrance test (JMET). Look at the comparison below the test sections are same except the duration and of-course the level of difficulty too changes.

Test Sections JMET CAT
Quantitative Ability Yes Yes
Data Interpretation Yes Yes
Verbal Ability Yes Yes
Logical Reasoning Yes Yes
Duration 3 Hours (180 Mins) 2 Hours 20 Mins (140 Mins)

We have recently reported about the changes that are made to CAT, this year CAT will be conducted by IIM Calcutta and JMET to be conducted by IIT Madras.

Disclaimer: There was no official communication made about withdrawing JMET by any of the IITs as of the article was written.
