IIMs collectively conduct Common Admission Test (CAT) for admissions into Post Graduate Management Programmes offered in one of the most prestigious business schools in India, ‘The IIMs’. CAT is also used by various participating Institutes as a selection process to screen the applicants. Few reputed Institutes which use CAT are MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain Institute of Management & Research and many others.
Reportedly from many sources, IIMs have planned to take the CAT to the next level by introducing a preliminary round. Which means CAT will be held in two phases, one phase is a preliminary test and the other main CAT examination. So far the two tier CAT examination is a forward looking statement, the implementation probably is not for this year’s CAT.
CAT is as comprehensive as any management entrance test in the world, IIMs are planning to make CAT a global management entrance test (like GMAT). IIMs are also in serious thinking to launch CAT Corporation as a registered body to conduct and administer CAT as per an article published on Times of India which can be read from here.
CAT 2011 takers are probably not going to have a two tier CAT Examination. But what is your take, should IIMs conduct CAT as a two tier examination.
