Siemens India launches Scholarship for engineering students

  • Siemens India rolls out Scholarship Program across government engineering colleges in Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
  • First batch of meritorious engineering students hailing from economically disadvantaged families provided scholarships.
  • The program is in line with Siemens India’s strategy to support and promote technical education.

As part of the first batch of the Program, 20 meritorious students were provided scholarships covering tuition and stationary expenses for the first year of their graduation course. The scholarships were presented to the students in the presence of their parents.

The scholarships cover tuition and stationary expenses for the first year of their graduation course. Additionally, training, projects and mentorship provided by Siemens would acquaint the students with the dynamics of the industry, thereby leading to their holistic development. In the first phase, Siemens reached out to all government engineering colleges of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.

The students belong to economically-disadvantaged families, most of whom are based in small towns and villages. Among the students are a labourer’s son who is pursuing his Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Computer Science and Information Technology student whose widowed mother earns a living through tailoring and a farmer’s daughter who is studying for an Electronics and Telecommunications engineering degree.

For these students, professional education acts as a liberating force from thier existing living conditions. The choice of a career in engineering requires them to put in hours of toil through their final two years of senior secondary school followed by painstakingly preparing for the entrance examination in order to gain entrance through merit. It would prove a great loss, to their immediate family as well as the industry, if they give up at this stage of their education for lack of finance!

Aurus Network launches ‘’ – an online coaching platform for CA students to prepare from India’s top teachers

ArusAurus Network, a provider of education solutions on the cloud, today announced the launch of their new online coaching service ‘’ for students preparing for Chartered Accountancy Exam. The service allows students to prepare by enrolling in online batches and interact with professors live from across India via the website (, thereby bringing the classroom experience to the convenience of a Personal Computer and living up to its tagline of “Your Profs, Your Time, Your Place”.

superprofs helps students ace CA by bringing the top professors (SuperProfs stands for Super Professors) to them, so that they can prepare from the best in the business, while sitting at home! What this means is now students can learn from the best teachers of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai or other big cities, instead of going to them physically. No more relocating to a different city to study from that top professor, no more travelling woes to be able to attend the coaching class and no more high fees.  Riding on the state-of-the-art technology of transmitting HD quality videos at bandwidths as low as 100 kbps, this can be clearly a boon for students in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Currently, there are over 1. 5 lakh students appearing for the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) for Chartered Accountancy, with a success rate of conversion to IPCC as low as 27 percent as per data released by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India.

As a majority of the coaching institutes exist in popular hubs at metro cities, not all students have access to these centers. In fact, even in metros it’s a common trend to see students travelling frantically in juggling between coaching classes of different top professors. What ensures is that it brings India’s best professors on a common platform so that a student can compare and evaluate different professors and enroll in the online batch of professor he/ she finds better. This unique marketplace model ensures that the students get access to top quality professors across India. is striving to replicate, rather improve, offline classroom experience. This simply implies that there is much more to than just online batches having video lectures delivered online. There are some unique personalization features like live doubt clearing sessions from the professor and access to exclusive printed material prepared from the Professors. Apart from this, there are regular assessment tests and peer-to-peer discussion forums to promote intellectual discussions among students.

With its unique marketplace model, is running after the fragmented industry and is aiming to revolutionize the same by riding on its superior technology. Professors on are rated and reviewed by students on the platform thereby adding a competitive element to the quality of teaching provided.

‘’ is the only online coaching platform for CA students in India which offers students a choice of classes from individual teachers and of various institutes. Talking about reach, students can access these classrooms from anywhere in the globe, making it’s reach pretty impressive.

Speaking at the launch, Piyush Agarwal, Founder & CEO, Aurus Network said, “Ät Aurus Network we are driven by a mission to provide quality education at affordable cost to the masses. We noticed that with the increasing number of candidates appearing for the CA examination in India, equal opportunities do not exist for all in terms of the kind of coaching provided. Consequently students with better access and resources are far more privileged while facing such competitive exams. This motivated us to launch ‘SuperProfs’, a common platform for online coaching that is equally accessible to student across India. Professors too are benefited as they are able to reach out to much higher target group making their reach not limited by geography.

Additionally, going in line with its vision to benefit the society, has priced all its courses at less than half the price of what is available traditionally in offline coaching. Thus, giving access to superior professors, saving time and money for the students.

‘’ is currently available for public consumption at its official website Makers of the service, Aurus Network, pioneers in the use of internet-based, live 2-way HD classes which connected the best teachers with students across the country and eliminated the need for costly hardware-based video conferencing or VSAT (satellite based) equipments and networks.

AICTE will regulate only Autonomous Business Schools not MBA colleges

Change-SignThe Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) which held a crucial meeting yesterday had reportedly found a solution for the ongoing conflict of interest between UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). For years AICTE has been regarded as the regulatory body for technical & management Institutions, which from now on will not be the same. AICTE has been demoted to a mere advisory body; while the UGC has been vested with powers to control technical & professional colleges.

Business Schools which are offering autonomous PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) courses are likely to be spared and they will not be asked to sort approval from the Universities. The likes of SP Jain Mumbai, Great Lakes Chennai, LIBA Chennai, IMT Ghaziabad etc are all autonomous colleges which offer AICTE PGDM courses.

The important conclusion is that Management colleges which offer MBA from an affiliating University will come under the purview of UGC. Autonomous Business Schools which offer diploma courses will be under AICTE’s leadership. The decision will impact the entire MBA education scenario in India and the Banks too need to update their system of sanctioning education loans. No longer AICTE approval makes sense for MBA colleges as they are governed by it’s University regulatory body UGC.
