The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a press note stating that it will conduct an All India Pre Medical Entrance Test (AIPMT) on 04 May 2014. However the final decision whether AIPMT 2014 will be held or not is based on the outcome of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Readers are aware that in 2013 CBSE has conducted NEET UG instead of AIPMT for the 15% government seats in Medical / Dental colleges across India (excluding J&K, Andhra Pradesh).
Although NEET UG too is for the 15% government quota seats but the problem with NEET UG was that it was the lone test for all Medical & Dental colleges in India. MCI (The Medical Council of India) & CBSE after facing severe criticism over NEET UG syllabus issue are left with no option than to roll back to the good old AIPMT.
AIPMT 2014 will consist of one paper with 180 objective type questions from the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology (45 questions from each subject). The syllabus is same as that of NEET UG and the format of the paper is also on the similar lines. The major difference is that AIPMT will not replace any other state level Medical or Dental CETs. Private Universities will conduct their own entrance exams instead of relying on a sole test.
However readers must note that the final verdict by the Apex Court on NEET UG is due and AIPMT will be held subject to an approval by the Supreme Court of India.
